Runway Unlimited: Where It Went and What to Use Instead

Runway Unlimited was the plan heavy users loved: in the past Runway sold an "Unlimited" tier with relaxed-rate generations, so you could keep generating at a slower pace after your fast credits ran out. As of September 2026, Runway's official pricing page lists Free, Standard, Pro and Max, so check the page yourself to see whether an unlimited option is offered where you are. What Runway lists today instead of Unlimited

• Free: 125 one-time credits.
• Standard: $15/month ($12 annual), 625 credits.
• Pro: $35/month ($28), 2,250 credits.
• Max: $95/month ($76), 9,500 credits, which roll over for up to one month.

Max as the closest thing to Runway Unlimited

For a former Unlimited user, Max is the natural landing spot. At 60 credits per 5-second Gen-4.5 clip, 9,500 credits is about 158 clips a month, or around 5 a day. That is $95 ÷ 158 ≈ $0.60 per clip at monthly billing, less on annual. It is not unlimited, but the one-month rollover softens the edges of a slow week. If you produce every day, Max is likely cheaper per clip than anything pay-per-video.

Runway vs a pay-per-video alternative

Who should not replace Unlimited with a subscription

Unlimited made sense for people who generated in bursts: fifty tries on one shot during a crunch, then quiet weeks. A capped monthly plan fits those people badly, because the crunch blows through the credits and the quiet weeks waste them. Pay-per-video handles bursts better: top up for the crunch, and the remainder waits for the next one.

Worked example: a music video editor needs about 60 short visual clips over two weekends a quarter. On Standard that means multiple months of subscription and still running short; on Max, most of the credits go unused. Here, three $20 top-ups cover it, and there is no bill in the months without a project. Your own music is added in the editor; generated sound in each clip is optional.
