HeyGen Pricing, and When You Need a Different Tool

HeyGen pricing pays for something specific: AI avatars, talking-head presenters and video translation. Before comparing numbers it helps to be clear about the job. If you need a person on screen reading a script, HeyGen is built for that and we are not. If you actually need short visual clips, like a product shot, a scene, B-roll or a vertical hook, a flat $1 per video generator may cost far less than an avatar subscription. • Creator: $29/month ($24 billed annually), 600 credits.
• Pro: $49/month, 1,000 credits, output up to 4K.
• Business: $149/month plus $20 per extra seat.

What a HeyGen credit costs

Simple division gives the price per credit:

• Creator monthly: $29 ÷ 600 ≈ $0.048 per credit ($0.04 on annual billing).
• Pro: $49 ÷ 1,000 = $0.049 per credit.

So Pro is not a cheaper rate than Creator; you pay for more credits and 4K output. How many credits a finished avatar video uses depends on its length and the features involved, so check HeyGen's credit table for your typical video before choosing a tier.

Annual billing deserves a second look too. Creator at $24 a month billed annually is $288 committed up front, against $348 if you pay $29 month to month. That saving is worth it if you know you will make avatar videos all year. If your need is one project, paying monthly and cancelling afterwards keeps you flexible. For teams, remember Business adds $20 for every extra seat on top of the $149 base.

HeyGen pricing compared with a clip generator

This is not an apples-to-apples race. HeyGen produces presenter videos with voice; we produce 3-30 second visual clips, with optional generated ambience and effects. We don't generate avatars, voices or lip-sync.

Which job are you actually doing?

Pick HeyGen if you make training videos, sales explainers with a presenter, or need a video translated into several languages with a matching face.

Pick a clip generator if you need cinematic scenes, product visuals, animated backgrounds, TikTok hooks or B-roll to cut between talking segments. A common setup is both: a presenter from an avatar tool, plus AI clips for cutaways, assembled in CapCut or Premiere.

Worked example: a course creator makes 4 lessons a month and wants 5 cutaway clips per lesson. That is 20 clips, exactly one $20 top-up here, while the presenter part stays wherever it is recorded. If some months need fewer clips, the rest waits in the account; our credits never expire.
