Why some creators like open models
Open weights mean the model is not a black box behind someone else's roadmap. The research community can inspect it, fine-tune it and build on it, and a model you can download cannot be switched off overnight. Mochi 1 was an important step for open video.

Self-hosting is free in license terms, not in practice. You pay for the GPU, whether that is your own card or rented cloud time, plus hours spent on drivers, dependencies and tuning settings. That is a great project if you enjoy it or need full control, for example to fine-tune on your own footage.
If you just need twenty clips for a campaign, the maths is different. A $20 top-up here buys exactly 20 clips in either mode, with nothing to install and no idle GPU bill. Credits never expire, so the balance waits if the campaign slips.
Choosing between Turbo and Pro
- Turbo is the fast option. Use it to iterate on composition and motion while an idea is still loose.
- Pro is the quality option. Use it for the version you will actually post.

What the hosted route gives up
You cannot load custom weights, change sampler settings or fine-tune; you get our two modes as they are. Every video also appears in our public feed by default, which is the opposite of a private local setup. You can Unpublish any clip at any time, but if full privacy on your own machine is the requirement, self-hosting remains the right call.
Some people end up using both: a local open model for experiments and private work, and a hosted service when they need finished clips fast or are away from their workstation. If convenience wins today, open the generator, turn on the prompt enhancer and write one line about the shot you have been meaning to test.
